Patrizio Campisi is Full Professor with the Dept. of Applied Electronics at the Università degli Studi "Roma TRE", Roma, Italy. He received the “Laurea” degree ("summa cum laude") in Electronic Engineering from the Università degli Studi di Roma "La Sapienza", Roma, Italy and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Università degli Studi "Roma TRE", Roma, Italy.

In 1997-1998 he was a visiting research associate at the Communication Laboratory of the University of Toronto, Canada and in 2000 he was a Post Doctoral fellow in the same laboratory. From October 1999 to October 2001 he held a Post Doctoral position at the Università degli Studi "Roma TRE". He was the recipient of a NATO­CNR advanced fellowship in 2003. From March to July 2003 he was a visiting researcher at the Beckman Institute, “ University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign”, Illinois (USA). In March 2006, in July 2007, and in May-June 2009 he was a visiting professor at the Ecole Polytechnique de L'Univesité de Nantes, IRCCyN, Nantes, France.

His research interests are in the area of digital signal and image processing with applications to multimedia communications. Specifically, he has been working on secure biometric recognition, digital watermarking for images, video, and stereo images, image deconvolution, image restoration, image analysis, stereo image analysis and enhancement, quality assessment of stereo images, texture coding, texture synthesis, texture classification, video processing, blind equalization of data signals, and secure communications.

He is co-editor with Karen Egiazarian of the book "Blind Image Deconvolution: theory and applications", CRC press, May 2007.

He is co-recipient of:

  • an IEEE Second International Conference on Biometrics: Theory, Application and Systems 2008 best student paper award for the paper "Cancelable Biometrics for HMM-based signature recognition";

  • an IEEE Biometric Symposium 2007 best paper award for the paper titled "Biometric Signature Authentication using Radon Tranform based Watermarking Techniques";

  • an IEEE International Conference on Image Processing 2006 best student paper award for the paper titled "Contour detection by multiresolution surround inhibition".

He has been General Chair of the 12 th ACM Workshop on Multimedia and Security, 9-10 September, 2010, Roma , Italy .

He has been Program Chair of the EU COST 2101 Workshop on Privacy and Security for Biometrics May 2010, Las Palmas , Spain .

He is an elected member of the IEEE Information Forensics and Security Technical Committee (Jan. 2011 - Jan 2013).

He is a member of IEEE Certified Biometric Program (CBP) Learning System Committee (2007 - present)

He is a member of the IEEE Technical Committee on Information Assurance & Intelligent Multimedia- Mobile Communications, System, Man, and Cybernetics Society (2007 - present).

He is an IEEE Senior Member, an Associate editor of IEEE Signal Processing Letters (Dec. 2008 – Dec 2012), an Associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security (Jan. 2012 - Jan 2013).

He is a Guest Editor of the special issue “ Future trends in Biometric Processing” IET Computer Vision, September 2011, an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Digital Crime and Forensics (IJDCF) (Jan. 2009 - present), an Associate Editor of Advances in Multimedia by Hindawi (Jan. 2009 - present), and an Associate Editor of IET Biometrics (Jan. 2012 - present).
